So...I've thought about it a little. And although Scalzi has totally managed to pwn the world of fantasy fiction now and forever more, that doesn't mean there's no room in the world for other varieties of fiction. There's still room for science fiction (which, now that Scalzi has apparently decided to move from that, there's room for my book about super-intelligent chamois-based products rising up to take over the world. Hooray!), romance fiction, literary fiction, and fiction written entirely in binary for our robot overlords. Those books are mostly about the main character discovering its motherboard has developed a short and it only has a gigacycle remaining to live and attempt to achieve meaningful connection with its creator. Whose name is Hank and who lives in Frederick, Maryland.
Robots have it so good...
Anyway, it does occur to me that I will have to dedicate quite a bit of time to the whole writing process. That does mean some changes.
First, I will be officially shutting down Accidental Historian. There just isn't enough time in the day. Shit happens, you know?
Second, I will be transferring everything over to my Twitter account. You can follow me 140 characters at a time at @geds81. I will mostly only have time to "Tweet," as the kids say, whilst walking the dog, so most of my blogging will now come in the form of musings on dog excrement removal and the inherently annoying nature of such activities. That, in turn, might cause me to discuss politics.
Third, I will probably have to quit my job. As such, I will be instituting a paywall on my Twitter account. There will be two options:
Option A: A la carte pricing. You can read an individual Tweet for the low price of 25 cents.
Option B: Monthly subscription pricing. $15 buys you a month of access to all of my 140 character brilliance (money-back guarantee if my average Tweet falls to <110 characters!). Additionally, $10 extra per month will also add you to the "Geds81 Mobile Tweet Experience," which is basically the same thing, just on your smartphone (at 4G speed if you happen to have a 4G-capable smartphone!). An additional $10 over that will get you the "Geds81 Platinum Package," wherein you will be allowed to read my Tweets on your iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab, or Motorola Xoom (but not the original iPad. Fuck that thing. It knows what it did to piss me off). Platinum Package subscribers will also have the option of buying the "Lookit MEEEE!" add-on for $5. This will allow you to Re-Tweet an unlimited number of my Tweets, thereby allowing you to seem intelligent, erudite, and able to get the attention of one of the most important and dynamic presences on the internet. As an added bonus, Re-Tweets from the "Lookit MEEEE!" add-on can be read by anyone for free. It's a win-win-win!
I thank you for your support and patronage of this blog throughout the many years in which I wrote whatever the hell I felt like whenever the hell I felt like it and offered it to you for free. I hope that you will continue to enjoy the Geds experience, but on this exciting new platform. Truly, I believe I have placed myself at the forefront of a brand-new Web 3.0 paradigm and I'm sure you will thank me for being allowed to come along for the ride.
Oh, how I love this time of year...

Arrrrrrrg! No, you can't! This place is my Safe Haven, where I can be myself and not have to keep explaining my lifestyle or worrying about being considered inferior! You can't just move over to Twitter - do you have any idea how insensitive that platform is? I mean seriously, have you seen their definition of atheism? Or how they talk about pagans? How could you betray us like this???????
Okay, okay. Deep breath. Try to stay calm.
Okay, here's an idea. Maybe you could leave this site up, and turn it over to, say, a coalition of your better-known and more-trusted readers?

jd: In my opinion they could shut the internet down from April 2nd through March 31st and we'd probably be better off for it...
MM: I...um...

I actually thought about posting to my Facebook wall to tell everyone my job hunting success turned out to be a terrible April Fool's Day prank, but I eventually thought better of it.
Either way, looking forward to some lunch-related goodness or some happy hour or some such.
Also, I just subscribed to your full Twitter feed with all options. I gave my credit card number to a Nigerian prince who said he was handling billing for you.
