Second question of the day: I keep getting Rand Paul and Paul Ryan confused. Is this because they have similar names, or because there's basically no substantive difference between the two?
Also, follow-up: Wisconsin voted Russ Feingold -- RUSS FEINGOLD -- out in favor of Rand Paul Ryan. What the fuck is up with that?
Rand Paul is unrealistically angry, Paul Ryan is unrealistically smarmy. That's how I tell them apart. Seriously, every time I see Paul Ryan's sincere, sympathetic gaze on TV I expect him to ask me to donate my money to save starving puppies in earthquake-stricken third world nations. But basically he's the exact opposite.

Do you read Charles Pierce? If you don't, you should. He always refers to Paul Ryan as "zombie-eyed, granny-starver Paul Ryan." That mental image might help.

It was actually a Charles Pierce article that set that off. The problem, I think, is that Pierce can't mention Paul Ryan without mentioning Ayn Rand, so that's how I end up with the Rand Paul Ryan thing.
